Flying Kites on Labor Day

Ever since Kate and Lexi received kites one Christmas, they've wanted to go fly them. When we were at Carolina Beach this past summer, we forgot them at home. Today, though, they got their wish.

Here are some pictures of the girls flying their kites on one of the lawns at UAB on Labor Day.

What will we do with a drunk sailor?

This traditional sea ditty sung by the Irish Rovers has some ideas, but we just sing about them in our Tues/Thurs Admiralty class, bright and early at 8:20 A.M.

For a retired professor who could easily sleep walk through the course material after teaching it for so long, I appreciate how much extra effort Professor Hoff puts into the class and how much interest he generates. This is one example from class the other day.

Daddy - Daughter Date

A few weeks ago, Kate, my eldest daughter started kindergarten. As I was between my clerkship and the beginning of classes at Alabama, I drove Kate to school and spent a lovely day with my second daughter, Lexi.

Below are the pictures of our time at Barnes & Noble, where she enjoyed a Vanilla Milk and a cupcake. Over the next few days we also took a trip to the library, McWane Science Center, and the JCC to swim.

I know my wife works incredibly hard as a photographer and full-time Mom (especially while I'm in law school!), but days like those make me slightly envious.

Office 2010: The Movie

I tried iWorks, but couldn't really get behind Pages and Numbers. I think I'll always be an Office fan. My only hope is that they spend time making MacOffice as good as Office for Windows.

Wreckage of The Condor

The Condor was a side-wheel steamer used to evade the Union blockade during the War Between the States.

Built in Scotland in 1864, it was 220 feet long and could carry 1000 bales of cotton and 45 sailors.

It sank when it ran aground trying to reach the Cape Fear inlet. On board was celebrated Confederate spy, Rose O'Neal Greenshaw, carrying letters for Jefferson Davis and gold from the British.

Portions of the vessel remain not far from the original wreckage in Carolina Beach, North Carolina

(Mike Tyson's) Punch-Out!! for the Wii!

I remember playing this game as a kid. Back in the day, it was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, but it looks like Mike is out.

Playing this game could be my single greatest temptation towards getting a Wii.
