Wreckage of The Condor

The Condor was a side-wheel steamer used to evade the Union blockade during the War Between the States.

Built in Scotland in 1864, it was 220 feet long and could carry 1000 bales of cotton and 45 sailors.

It sank when it ran aground trying to reach the Cape Fear inlet. On board was celebrated Confederate spy, Rose O'Neal Greenshaw, carrying letters for Jefferson Davis and gold from the British.

Portions of the vessel remain not far from the original wreckage in Carolina Beach, North Carolina
